Summer Camp Week 3

Gallery Creation & Curation
Grades: 9th-12th

Teacher: Meredith Coffey | June 17th-21st, 1:00pm-4:00pm | $200 (members $175) 
Grades: 9th-12th 

Is your student interested in hands-on experience in art installation and creation? This class will focus on planning, making, displaying, and installing larger art pieces. They will be site-specific projects that will be featured on the exterior and interior of The Living Arts & Science Center. Students will work on critical thinking skills, display, interaction, and community engagement. If your student is interested in an art, science or museum-related career field, this class will add extensive knowledge and value to their future education.

This class will meet in person at the Living Arts & Science Center. Parents should provide one peanut-free snack, and a personal water bottle for their child.

Morning Meditation LASC Morning Care
Grades: K-12th

Summer Camp Week 3, June 17th-21st | K - 12th Grade | $50 ($45 Members) 

Need to drop off early? No problem, begin the day by joining our morning meditation starting at 8 am. Students can enjoy activities such as yoga, stretching, getting your body moving, and more all while under the stars in our planetarium. LASC staff will guide students to their classrooms at 8:45 am.

Music Mania (Songwriting and Music Basics)
Grades: 6th-8th

Teacher: Will Padgett | June 17th-21st, 9:00am-4:00pm | $350 (members $325) 
Grades: 6th-8th

Interested in music and songwriting? Join us with local, professional musician Will Padgett, as we take a trip through the history of Appalachian, Folk, Irish, Country, and other music styles. This class will provide students with a variety of instruments to try out and experiment with playing. Students will do a deep dive into the basics of songwriting and how to put your thoughts not only on paper but turn them into a song. This class will also offer ukulele lessons and a chance to build their very own instrument to take home. 

This class will meet in person at the Living Arts & Science Center. Parents should provide two peanut-free snacks, one lunch, and a personal water bottle for their child.

Paper Mache Animals
Grades: 3rd-5th

Teacher: Amy Schmidt | June 17th-21st, 9:00am-4:00pm | $350 (members $325)

It’s time to get messy! Join us as we take paper-mache to a whole new level! In this class, students will learn about a variety of fabulous animals and then sculpt them using a variety of materials and most importantly paper mache! Materials used in this class will create a lasting work of art, good enough for the museum!

This class will meet in person at the Living Arts & Science Center. Parents should provide two peanut-free snacks, one lunch and a personal water bottle for their child.

Under the Big Top

Grades: K-2nd

Teachers: Dani Garner & Meghan Taylor | June 17th-21st, 9:00am-4:00pm | $350 (members $325)

Join the LASC Circus Troupe!

In this class, students will get to use their visionary minds to create their own fun-filled classroom circus. We’ll learn some awesome skills including juggling silks and puppet-making. Students will then get to spend the second half of their day in the ceramics studio creating an astonishing circus scene made fully from clay. By learning to hand-build in clay, students will acquire many new art skills they can take with them.

This class will meet in person at the Living Arts & Science Center. Parents should provide two peanut-free snacks, one lunch, and a personal water bottle for their child.

Dino Dig
Grades: Pre-K (ages 3-5)

Teacher: Meredith Coffey | June 17th-21st, 9:00am - 12:00 pm | $200 ($175 Members)
Grades: Pre-K (ages 3-5) (Must be bathroom independent)

Join us for a week straight from the prehistoric world of dinosaurs. Students will learn about different kinds of dinosaurs, and learn about animals that we can see today that came from dinosaurs. Students will participate in dinosaur digs, hatching dinosaur eggs, examining fossils, and will be able to open and take home their own geode.

This class will meet in person at the Living Arts & Science Center. Parents should provide one peanut-free snack, and a personal water bottle for their child.

Learning Lounge: LASC Aftercare
Grades: K - 12th

Summer Camp Week 3: June 17th-21st | K - 12th Grade | $50 ($45 Members)

Join LASC for the aftercare Learning Lounge. Students can enjoy supervised crafts, games, activities and recreation time after class. Students must be picked up by 5:30pm.

Gardening Camp
Grades: K-5th

Teacher: Ruth Cathey | June 17-21, 9:00am-4:00pm | $350 (members $325) 
Grades: K-5th 

Let's create a garden! Students will learn about all gardening and optimal conditions for plant growth. We will start to grow vegetables, flowers, fruits, and herbs! We will also learn about soil, soil layers, and where you can and can't grow certain plants. Students will also learn about different biomes and climates that are best for growing gardens, the role of farmers in our society, GMOs, photosynthesis, and the positive impact that community gardens can have on big cities. Students will also explore the LASC grounds looking at different plants and animals.
