Due to the cancellation of school on Eclipse Day Monday, August 21st, The Living Arts & Science Center (LASC) will open its planned Eclipse Celebration to the public. The LASC will be open 12 – 4pm with activities throughout the building for families to enjoy together. The Living Arts & Science Center’s science educators will lead students through art and science activities such as drawing a corona, making shadow puppets and sundials, solar oven demonstrations, making pinhole viewers and “Experience the 2017 Eclipse Across America” a live feed from NASA in the planetarium. This is a FREE event with FREE eclipse glasses for the first 300 visitors. (You should not look directly at the sun without proper eye protection, click HERE for more information on safety issues with the eclipse) Children 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Teachers and care providers are encouraged to bring small groups with a reservation. Call the LASC at (859) 252-5222 to reserve a space for small groups.

Heather Lyons, Executive Director at the Living Arts & Science Center summed it up this way, “A total solar eclipse is widely regarded as the ultimate astronomy event. It is very exciting to be able to share this dramatic and rare demonstration of space science in such interactive ways with students and teachers. It will be a memorable experience for everyone.”

A Post-Eclipse party will take place during the Living Arts &Science Center’s monthly Discovery Saturday event on August 26th. Children and adults can take part in many eclipse activities such as drawing a corona, making shadow puppets and sundials, and viewing Planetarium shows of NASA’s eclipse recordings from Aug. 21. Discovery Saturday takes place every 4th Saturday from 10-2PM with hands-on activities throughout the building, planetarium shows and family workshops. Admission to Discovery Saturday is $4.00 and includes all eclipse activities and planetarium shows. Additional art workshops are also available for $8.00 and $10.00 per person.
