Dogs
on Patrol!
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Division of Police Canine Unit was
established in 1962 and is the oldest in the state of Kentucky. This group of
dogs is highly trained and able to detect explosives, search buildings, sniff
out illegal drugs, help with patrols, and even apprehend criminals! Think your
dog can do that? Come learn more about these amazing animals and the officers
that work with them! Also during Discovery Night, create some unique canine art
to take home!

H'Artful of Fun The Emerald City

The Emerald City,
the Living Arts & Science Center’s 20th anniversary
H’Artful of Fun will definitely remind you of that. This gem of an
evening will feature the best of all 20 years of this amazing and
artful event that benefits Lexington’s Living Arts & Science
Center.
Art will be
auctioned, music will be made, and chefs will show-off their skills
as The Emerald City features
extravagant desserts created and served by over 30 of Lexington’s
finest chefs, wine and bourbon tasting with numerous local vineyards
and distilleries, a fabulous art auction
of work by over
100 of Kentucky’s finest artists and craftspeople, and a silent and
live auction of unique items from the most desirable
retailers, tourist destinations and companies in the area.
Live music, dancing,
champagne,
film
screenings, and other
“artful” happenings at the event contribute to a one-of-a-kind evening.

PM Discovery Night Chemistry in Your
Kitchen!
Why do fudge recipes call for a little corn syrup when they already contain so
much sugar? Why is there vinegar in my banana bread recipe? What are these
fabulous antioxidants in chocolate? Did you know that some of history’s first
chemists were cooks? Join the LASC and University of Kentucky Chemistry
professor, Dr. Anne-Frances Miller, for a fun filled evening of rolling up our
sleeves and experimenting with some of our favorite culinary concoctions! Delve
into the amazing chemical devices lurking in some of our favorite dishes, and
much more! Everything will be edible (if not tasty)!

PM Discovery Night Lego Robots!with
special STARLAB Planetarium shows
Robots are fascinating mechanical devices that are capable of performing a
variety of tasks on command or according to instructions programmed by
engineers! Robots are currently being developed to help humans explore space,
perform delicate surgeries, help the disabled, destroy underwater mines, and
much more! Join the LASC and Dr. Bruce Walcott, Director of the University of
Kentucky’s Center for Manufacturing & Associate Dean for Commercialism and
Economic Development, as we explore the fun and fundamentals of robots made of
legos! Learn how a robot is constructed and programmed and test it’s skills on
a challenging obstacle course!
Also enjoy the night sky in our STARLAB Planetarium! Special
shows will highlight constellations to look for and planets to identify in
April’s night sky!
