Science Field Trips

Field Trip Details:
A typical field Trip to The Living Arts & Science Center lasts approximately 90 minutes and can include discovery or art-based components. We can accommodate up to 75 students at a time for Discovery Field Trips, and 50 students at a time for Art Field Trips, and trips can include 2 or 3 different components within each discipline. Groups are divided and rotated among the programs during the session.
A Double Field Trip
(2 components) lasts 90 minutes and includes two 45 minute sessions: (Component 1 and Component 2)
Cost is $3.50 per person (Teachers are free).
A Triple Field Trip
(3 components) lasts 2 hours and includes three 40 minute sessions: (Component 1, Component 2, and Component 3)
Cost is $4.50 per person payable to The Living Arts and Science Center (Teachers are free).
There is a minimum charge of $45 (double) or $60 (triple) for groups of less than 12 students.
Component 1: The Discovery Exhibit (Suitable for all grades)
Take a trip through the biomes of the world and discover the diversity of Amazing Animal Adaptations! See the Amazing Animal Adaptations exhibit description.
Component 2: The Explorer’s Classroom
Experience animal adaptations in this hands-on segment of your visit. Transform into an animal to discover specific adaptations. Hairy worms? Clear eyelids? False feet? Test some animal adaptations yourself! Simulate an ecosystem and make observations to support conclusions about structure and function!
Component 3: The STARLAB Planetarium
Inside StarLab’s 16 by 11 foot dome, a projector displays the night sky as it looks from anywhere on the Earth and any time of the night or year. Observe the beauty and science of the night sky in our inflatable planetarium. Design your own STARLAB show to best fit your needs. Choose from a variety of dynamic show topics such as:
- Shapes, constellations, and monthly changes in the sky
- Phases of the moon
- Star color
- Planets
- Greek / African / or North American mythology
- Chinese seasons and legends
- Ancient Egyptian culture and legends
- Earth and lunar cycles
- Using a star map at home
