1. Introduction to Stained Glass
Dan Neil Barnes
Work with this master stained glass craftsman and, step-by-step, construct a small stained glass panel. With several simple designs to choose from, you will select colors of glass and learn how to cut the glass, grind the edges, line the edges with copper foil, and solder your panel. After this project you will be ready to get more creative with design and glass selection. Dan encourages you to take the Advanced Stained Glass class in April too!

34. Creating Digital Art

An overview of the process of creating art using a computer. Included is an introduction to Adobe Photoshop (retouching, color correction, special effects) and using a graphics tablet with Corel Painter (drawing and painting with a computer). You are also encouraged to bring some small discarded objects from home to include in your artwork.

48. Spring Embossed

67. Dying Fabric for a Favorite-Photo-Quilt

Learn how to transform a treasured landscape photo or postcard into a silk wall quilt. Dyeing techniques will capture the exact colors, shades, and nuances of your photo landscape. We will master the skills of design, preparing the pattern and templates, and painting the silk with fiber-active dyes. You will also learn easy and timesaving techniques to sew your creation together into a lasting memory. Bring 2 pair of sharp scissors, one for fabric and one for paper and your photo(s).

68. Beginning Watercolor

Students will experiment with specific effects to increase their understanding of this exciting and expressive medium. Study the ancient world of medieval times. We’ll identify and draw a vast array of hand weapons, and body armor as well as large siege engines and towers. We’ll even build a trebuchet or catapult (small scale of course!).

75. Drawing the Native Landscape
Will Overbeck

This class will emphasize natural features in the local landscape including trees, flowers, animals, and landforms. Special attention will be given to the Bluegrass Region’s historical forests and inhabitants. Drawing with colored pencils, graphite, and then some painting, will allow us to recreate imaginary landscapes of Kentucky with buffalo, horses, mammoths, or Native Americans.

77. Spring Fling
Kriis Zeps

For spring decoration young artists will learn how to sculpt “bird’s nests” using salt dough and straw. Then they will make a colorful windsock to show them which way the wind blows. Using tissue paper, paint, pastels, crayons and their imaginations, they will create cheerful chicks and vibrant butterflies. A real fun fling into spring!
