Explore the fundamentals of the visual world through drawing and
painting. Draw in and outdoors, stretch a small canvas for painting, and to aid
in understanding, we will look at compositions of artists, past and present. No
experience needed. Wear clothing that can take a stain.

133. A Fine and Colorful Yarn

Learn all about yarns, how they are made and what they are made of.
We will take a skein of wool yarn and learn how to paint it with dyes, set the
color , and then learn how to knit a simple scarf.

go over the basics of Photoshop, how to manipulate photos and get them ready to
print or upload them to the web. This class is great for artists who want to get

137. Intermediate Photoshop

Have you ever been amazed by graphic artist? Well, now you can
become one! Learn the tricks of the trade in this Intermediate Photoshop class.
We will go over some more advanced features like filters, channels, layer masks
and styles, and other tools. Make sure to bring some images to be manipulated! A
basic knowledge of Photoshop is suggested. If you have a laptop feel free to
bring it to class.

Using the elements of our city surroundings we will create a
cityscape. Look at buildings, houses, and streets to create an image of the

trace the development of music through a series of songs of the African
Diaspora. We will participate by playing traditional hand drums from
Mali West Africa, Cuba, and singing African American work songs while
moving and using our bodies as instruments. Discover ways to make music
using simple accessible household materials!

140. Creative Digital Art Bruce Frank
An overview of the process of creating art using a computer.
Included is an introduction to Adobe Photoshop (retouching, color correction,
special effects) and using a graphics tablet with Corel Painter (drawing and
painting with a computer). Students will have hands-on experience scanning
images, creating an art piece, and printing it. Bring your own laptop if you
like.

We will learn about natural dyes and the plants that produce them.
Learn about preparing wool with mordants, and dye some reds, yellows and greens.
Lastly we will talk about reduction dying and do an indigo dye-bath.
