Artist Opportunities

Call for Entries:

Evolving Traditions (Deadline extended until July 30th)
Kentucky has a long and rich history of artists and craftspeople working in traditional art forms ‐‐‐ forms that may have been passed down from their community, family, or from within educational institutions that have long celebrated and taught these traditions. But Kentucky's artists are also innovative and diverse and have adapted and refined these traditional forms, producing new and exciting contemporary work. For local audiences and for the regional, national and international audiences arriving in Lexington for the 2010 World Equestrian Games, Evolving Traditions will celebrate Kentucky artists who reference these traditional forms through the use of their materials, processes, or subject matter, but who have also expanded the forms and traditions in new directions.

The gallery at the LASC is dedicated to involving viewers in unique ways through providing exhibitions that are engaging and interactive. A relationship with the art that is tactile or participatory allows children and adults to become further involved and responsive toward the exhibited work. Through this focus, Evolving Traditions will look beyond the surface of the artist’s work. It will include interactive stations that allow the viewers to touch, create, and learn more fully about the work they are viewing. For these areas, exhibiting artists will be invited to provide sample works or materials that may help to provide insight into their own artwork or to particular art forms. Exhibiting artists will also be invited to participate in prearranged artist talks, and may be invited to assist with student field trip programs, and/or public art programs related to the exhibition. We look forward to collaborating with exhibiting artists to provide experiences that involve multiple senses of perception and awaken the creative mind.
